The French president will personally try to convince Mbappe to stay at PSG AGAIN. French President Emmanuel Macron has revealed he is ready to step in again to try and convince Kylian Mbappe to stay at PSG after the forward refused to sign a new deal at the club.
Mbappe dropped the bombshell news this week that he has no intention of signing fresh terms beyond 2024 with the French champions.
The development has put Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, and other top European sides on red alert, with PSG now backed into a corner and feeling ‘betrayed’ by their star player.
A similar situation arose last summer that saw Mbappe heavily linked with a big-money move to Real Madrid before Macron sensationally revealed that he influenced the striker’s decision to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes.
And when asked by a young PSG fan on the sidelines of the VivaTech exhibition in Paris about Mbappe’s future, Macron said in the light-hearted exchange that he had ‘no scoop’ but insisted that he ‘will try to push for’ the France captain to stay.
Mbappe would later go on to say that he appreciated the ‘good advice’ of the French president, who wanted the PSG star to stay in France.
But as of next summer, that may no longer be the case.
On Tuesday, the 24-year-old forward put Europe’s elite on red alert when he informed PSG via a letter to say he did not want to exercise the extension clause which would see him contracted until June 2025.
Mbappe had until July 31 to make his decision but is understood to be unhappy with the direction the club is taking.
It means Mbappe has just one more year left to run on his deal at Parc des Princes and the French champions will not risk letting their superstar leave for free next summer.
PSG had been willing to give him greater incentives to stay on a long-term deal with plans afoot to recruit more France internationals and create a closer identity with the club’s fan base.
However, this move has come as a surprise and will leave them little option but to contemplate a sale with his long-time suitors Real Madrid is expected to be at the head of the queue.
Mbappe would further push PSG into a corner by saying he is ‘very happy’ at the club and branded reports that he wants to join Real Madrid as ‘lies’.
PSG have no intention of letting their most valuable asset depart for free next year but Mbappe’s statements put the emphasis on them to instigate a sale now.
Mbappe claims PSG have been aware, since his contract renewal last year, that his intention was always to see out his deal until 2024 but the club contested on Tuesday that his entourage has engaged in discussions since over a possible extension and pointed to the fact that on his last contract signing he posed with a shirt that read ‘Mbappe 2025’ on it.
The fact Mbappe signed his contract with PSG in 2022 came as a surprise with many expecting him to join Real Madrid at the time. He has since apologized to Madrid president Florentino Perez who anticipated relaunching a bid next summer.
Real Madrid came agonizingly close to luring Mbappe to the Bernabeu last summer before the forward sensationally chose to extend his PSG contract.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side parted company with star forward Karim Benzema following his £86million per year move to Saudi Arabian champions Al-Ittihad last week and would likely be the favorites to land Mbappe again, especially if they miss out on Tottenham star Harry Kane this summer.
Mbappe re-signed with PSG on an initial two-year contract, which included a player option of an extra season.
If the forward has not agreed to the additional year by July 31, the French giants will look to cash in on him this summer.
